Ladies bring A-game at Shootout

Three time tennis Grand Slam doubles champion Greer Leo-Smith traded rackets for golf clubs as she walked away the overall ladies winner of the Betterball event with partner Louisa Thoma and also won the individual Stableford trophy at the ladies Telkom SuperSport Shootout.

Amongst those who ranked was super talented Idols judge Unathi Msengana coming in third at the betterball event.

The leading ladies from sport, business and politics all gathered at the majestic Legend Golf & Safari Resort for the fourth annual Ladies Telkom SuperSport Shootout event. The televised event comes at a great time attracting a new generation of enthusiastic lady golf players.

As first-time hosts of the ladies and men tournament, Legend Golf & Safari Resort boasts the breath-taking Hanglip Mountain as backdrop and a wide range of activities to indulge in whilst business networking and socialising are effortlessly intertwined.

The ladies event kicked off with some traditional welcome songs and a beautifully decorated dinner, held at the Signature Boma. SuperSport presenter Carol Tshabalala took the stage and reminisced about last year’s highlights whilst MultiChoice board member, Advocate Kgomotso Moroka, encouraged the ladies to support the tournament and its beneficiaries. The two long-term beneficiaries are the Gozololo Centre for Needy Children in KwaZulu-Natal and the Jacob G Zuma RDP Educational Trust. In 2015 LIV Villages, established by former sports star and Shootout winner Tich Smith, was added as a third recipient.

Telkom board member Ouma Rasethaba said: “The hospitality was brilliant. Golf was superb. What a beautiful setting!”

Gauteng Sports Arts Culture & Recreation Director and Media Liaison, Nino Zama, played the first shot of the tournament and SuperSport and CNBC Africa were there to capture the tee off as well as the highs and lows of the tournament.

“I’ll definitely come back again. It’s about the environment. I’ve enjoyed myself and enjoyed nature,” Esther Letlape, Deputy Chairperson of Community Rail Services, mused.

After an exhilarating day on the course the ladies traded their golf shirts for beautiful evening wear at the Ladies Gala Dinner, held at the Queen of Sheba Conference Centre.

Fundraising met nature in this exciting tournament where everyone walked away a winner having spent time at the luxurious Legend Golf & Safari Resort making memories and honing their game to perfection until the next Telkom Shootout.
